Qin Yi, born in 1922, appeared in his first film at the age of 17, and then performed plays in Chongqing and Chengdu.
In 1941, she joined the Chinese Drama Club led by the Communist Party of China (CPC), and became popular because of her role as Huang Shuhui in the drama spring returns. After successively participating in dramas such as The Spring and Autumn of the Kingdom, An Imperial Envoy, Dong Xiaowan and Wedding March, her outstanding performance made her known as the "Four Famous Dancers" on the stage of drama.

Qin Yi returned to Shanghai in 1946, became an actor in Shanghai Film Studio after the founding of New China, and served as the deputy head of Shanghai Film Actors Troupe.
So far, she has been with movies for more than 80 years, during which she participated in more than 40 movies and TV series and created countless classic screen images.
In the first film after the establishment of Shanghai Film Studio, Qin Yi played a rural woman who could pull a cart and carry stones.

What really made Qin Yi known to the national audience was flying tigers released in 1956, in which she played the witty, brave and warm-hearted Fang Lin.
Flying tigers tells the story of a flying tigers who fought bravely with the Japanese invaders on the railway line during the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression period.
Sister Fang Lin, played by Qin Yi, is the wife of guerrilla captain Liu Hong. Under the influence of her husband, she leads women to cooperate with various actions in flying tigers.

In 1957, Qin Yi starred in the first colorful sports feature film "Women’s Basketball Team No.5" after the founding of New China. The film revolved around the life experience of basketball player Tian Zhenhua and the different situations of Lin Jie and Lin Xiaojie’s mother and daughter, revealing the fate of sports players before and after liberation.

Qin Yi plays the suffering mother Lin Jie. At the age of 35, the shape of this deep-bottomed white lapel cheongsam suit in the film, coupled with tearful eyes, has a stunning beauty both then and now.

Qin Yi once said that his three favorite films are Women’s Basketball Team No.5.. Compared with the other two films, she played the least part in Song of Youth, but her performance of Lin Hong, a desperate Communist of party member, was a light that could not be concealed in the classic red films of the same period.
